In the midst of football season and my college team on a streak (Go Irish!), I must admit I’m pleased to read that the hops in beer can actually do the body good!

Your favorite brew is made with antioxidant-rich plants, boosting it with folic acid, vitamins, iron and calcium, which a study out earlier this year claims provide a ‘protective’ effect on the cardiovascular system.

Studies have shown reduce the risk of high blood pressure right alongside red wine (who gets all the glory) and also could protect your bone health as you age (a recent study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that India pale ale has the most of the possible bone building mineral silicon and wheat beers the least).

Of course, increasing beer intake to more than one per day could reverse the health effects.
