Eat Right, Look Younger!

Since the world’s search for the  fountain of youth continues, alas, we have all been forced to search elsewhere for our magical solutions to reverse the effects of aging. Drinking lots of water, exercising at the barre and getting enough sleep are three things that are easy enough to check off your list – but how about the scoop on foods that secretly combat the effects of aging?! Fitness Magazine rounded up the details on these fabulous food finds – read on, one even claims to REVERSE the effects of aging! How fantastic!

1. Pomegranate seeds: Soften your skin
Pomegranates are PACKED with our pal Vitamin C, which helps guard against sun damage in the form of wrinkles! The fruit also contains compounds and nutrients that are known to fight free radicals and preserve collagen

Recommended: A cup of pomegranate seeds — not just juice — every week, suggests Jackie Newgent, RD, a nutritionist based in New York City. You can eat them plain – or sprinkle them over a salad or use them for cooking!

2. Blueberries: Reduce Lines
We’ve discussed these fabulous little blue fruits many times – and here we are talking about them because they are chock-full of antioxidants, protecting your skin from damaging free radicals that can cause lines – from anything from the sun to stress!

Recommended: One-half cup every day will help to prevent the cell-structure damage that can lead to loss of firmness, fine lines, and wrinkles.

3. Kale and Spinach: Firm it!
These greens contain specific antioxidants that, you guessed it, help guard against damage from the sun – but what’s more, they contain nutrients and proteins that have been proven to increase your skin’s elasticity!

Recommended: Every week, aim for three cups of either kale or spinach, or a combination of both!

4. Here fishy, fishy: Reduce redness
Cold-water fish like sardines, salmon, and mackerel contain lots of omega-3 fatty acids, which help your skin retain its moisture and even help alleviate long-term skin irritations like eczema and psoriasis!

Recommended: No more than six 6-ounce portions a week to avoid mercury contamination.

5. Green Tea: Diminish Brown Spots
This healthiest of brews contains nutrients and compounds that have been shown to prevent sun damage (like hyper-pigmentation) and antioxidants that compound those nasty free radicals that cause skin damage – and those antioxidants could even reverse the effects of aging!

Recommended: At least one cup a day to see results in as little as a month. Grab a cup next time you’re leaving the barre!

6. Watermelon: For that dewy complexion
The combination of vitamin C, lycopene and potassium found in this delicious fruit regulate the balance of water and nutrients in your cells – helping you appear refreshed and moisturized!

Recommended: At least one-two cups per week.

7. Olive Oil: For that healthy glow!
We always hear about those “good fats” – here’s where they’re found in high concentration. The heart-healthy omega 3’s in olive oil can help improve your circulation, making your skin appear more healthy and rosy!

Recommended: One tablespoon per day.
