A green smoothie, berried up!

Green smoothies seem to be everywhere these days – and for good reason: they’re an absolutely fantastic way to “trick” yourself into getting more nutrient-rich greens into your diet. If you’re new to this trend, or if you simply would rather dip your toe before jumping into the all-out green goopy smoothie (don’t be fooled by the look, they can actually be delicious, as well as nutritious), we’ve found a green smoothie that has been berried up – making it, in fact, not actually green in color at all (slightly more palatable for newbies) and naturally slightly sweeter.

This original recipe called for 2 tablespoons of honey – feel free to add if you need it a little more sweet to cover up the kale, but to be honest the raspberries are enough for me – and it saves us a bit of the sugar.

Berry Kale Smoothie

  • 1 1/2 cups fresh or frozen raspberries
  • 1/2 cup shredded kale
  • 1 cup ice
  • 3/4 cup fat-free plain yogurt
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 tablespoon natural almond butter
  • 2 tablespoon ground flax seeds

Combine all ingredients into a blender or magic bullet, blend until smooth!
